The Email Marketing Tool Entrepreneurs Actually Stick With: My Honest Review of Flodesk’s Evolution

As a multi-hyphenate entrepreneur, I don’t have time in this season for another full time job, which let’s be honest - sometimes managing your tech stack can feel like.

  • Clunky interfaces.

  • Subpar support.

  • Error after error making you want to chuck your laptop across the room.

  • Workflows that simply make zero sense.

It’s a NO for me. Who has time for that (or even interest in it for that matter)? The answer is no one.

As we head into another new year, I find it a great time to take the opportunity to do an audit of what systems I am using in my business.

What’s working?

What’s not working?

What has to go and what is screaming - if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

With so many tools popping up left and right it’s important to have a clear understanding of your needs and desires so you can find exactly what you need to provide the right support for you and your growing business. Around here we want to make decisions from data and experience not shiny object syndrome.

Flodesk is one of the most user-friendly tools I have ever integrated into my business and it’s the first one that’s ever made me feel like my business was working for me, not against me.

Between hosting a slew of in person events, multiple communities, a podcast, consulting and brand partnerships, I needed a simple email platform to serve both fashion and function. A solution for email marketing for creatives and strategists. Equal parts simplicity, power and vibes.

Flodesk checks all those boxes for me. It’s robust but easy to use, sleek but simple and brings aesthetic energy while also integrating with my other tech tools which make it an insta-win.

Why I Initially Chose Flodesk

When you’re new to entrepreneurship, you don’t know what you don’t know. And just like when you’re first having a baby, everyone has a passionate opinion about what’s the best way to go and they are overly willing to share it with you.

Insert: information overload.

I didn’t know what was up and what was down. What was left and what was right.  If I made the wrong decision, did the fate of the future of my business lie in making the right choice?!  (dramatic, I know). I had to take a step back and think through my overall vision and needs for my business.

  • A growing, dynamic, multi-faceted brand that had several different components and offers to manage.

  • The ability to quickly and easily segment my audience for things like waitlists, different event attendee lists, podcast opt-ins, strategic management of in-bound leads.

  • Something that was easy and time-efficient to manage. As a solopreneur, time is money and I didn’t have extra to waste unnecessarily. Simplicity is key - easy to learn, easy to manage.

  • Vibes and aesthetic on point. While I consider myself a strategy-minded girlie I am simultaneously equal parts creative. I wanted my emails to invoke a visual emotional response aligned with the energy that I put out into the world. Every email is a brand statement and I that was an important value proposition to me.

How Flodesk has Evolved

I started building my email list with Flodesk in 2022 and the evolution that has taken place has been SO cool to see and be a part of.

Integrations with platforms I am already using in my business has helped me buy my time back in more ways than one. Here’s a breakdown of a few of my most utilized tools and how the integration with Flodesk has made my life that much better.

  • Canva (another one of my ride or die tools) has made it seamless to perform tasks like branded forms, newsletter layouts and promo materials with ease. Any time that more than one key tool in your business can work cohesively together it instantly buys you time, money and energy back. I don’t know about you, but I can definitely use all the time, money and energy I can get around here.

  • ManyChat integrations have created a streamlined process to segment leads coming in through Instagram DM’s and placing them directly into the appropriate segments in my Flodesk account. Sometimes automation tools like auto-responders can get a bad wrap as impersonal BUT when used intentionally they can be an essential tool in your business. Think of it like a mini-VA taking on tasks that don’t truly require a human body! ManyChat has been my go to for automating things like lead magnet opt-in delivery, wait list forms, event ticket links etc. By using these tools to automate things like that it frees my time up more to pour personally into the purposeful conversations that are most value added.

  • Recently, I have just started dappling with the Squarespace integration in Flodesk. I host my website as well as event ticket sales on the Squarespace platform so when I saw this as an option it made my eyes light up as another way I can buy some of my time back!

Additional enhancements that I have loved to see are things like the ability to add polls directly into emails to increase audience participation when doing things like market research, link actions to trigger automations based on consumer behavior within the email, workflows to easily create paths for user experience that doesn’t rely on you having to be glued to your computer and more.
